2nd Quarter Lesson Seeds

I love this one.

Love this!!!

This activity is designed to have students consider important information about world poverty by using measures of central tendency and box plots. Students analyze data and use a hands-on manipulative to interpret and understand box plots, including the connection between percentiles and quartiles. The teacher version includes additional information on world poverty as well as instructional ideas to facilitate classroom discourse.

This lesson invites students to investigate the patterns when a "plus sign" (a cross-shaped arrangement of five squares) is placed on the board in various locations. Students will conjecture about the pattern of the five displayed numbers, the sum of the five numbers, and any other patterns that they notice. Students may also explore similar patterns when other shapes, such as a 2 × 1 rectangle, are placed on the hundreds board.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Algebra 1 Online!
This course contains both content that reviews or extends concepts and skills learned in previous grades and new, more abstract concepts in algebra. Students will gain proficiency in computation with rational numbers (positive and negative fractions, positive and negative decimals, whole numbers, and integers) and algebraic properties. New concepts include solving two-step equations and inequalities, graphing linear equations, simplifying algebraic expressions with exponents, i.e. monomials and polynomials, factoring, solving systems of equations, and using matrices to organize and interpret data.
external image 9850GPLUSsmall.jpgStudents will be actively engaged using concrete and virtual materials and appropriate technologies such as graphing calculators and computer software. However, facility in the use of technology shall not be regarded as a substitute for a student’s understanding of quantitative concepts and relationships or for proficiency in basic computations. Students will also identify and apply real-life applications of the mathematical principles they are learning to science and other disciplines they are studying.
Mathematics has its own language, and the acquisition of specialized vocabulary and language patterns is crucial to a student’s understanding and appreciation of the subject. Students are encouraged to use correctly the concepts, skills, symbols, and vocabulary identified in the course.
Problem solving is integrated throughout the different components of the curriculum. The development of problem-solving skills is a major goal of the mathematics program. Instruction in the process of problem solving will help students develop a wide range of skills and strategies for solving a variety of problem types.

Hello Algebra Team,

We are off to a great start this school year. You all have worked hard and your students are saying terrific things about your classes. I am attaching several documents that hopefully be helpful with the upcoming units.

Have fun!!!

Here is a "Linear" matching activity similar to the activity I showed during our meeting.

Team I am looking forward to our work session on Tuesday 11/24 @ Panera Bread on Dobbin Road. It is wireless so please bring you laptop if you need to and your 1st quarter data. I am attaching a copy of the agenda below.

Hello All,

I hope the meeting time was productive today. I feel like we are headed toward great result on our Mid-term Assessment. Thanks Phil for taking the lead on rewriting the Pre-Assessment so that we can set up lab time in January. The agenda for next Monday is attached.
